She will be sorely missed. She was the best dog I have ever had the privilege owning. She was a great companion and the best pheasant dog I have ever seen. She hunted tirelessly and when I guided hunts people would argue over who got to hunt with Splash. She always knew where the birds were. She was special. She was one of a kind.
I do not know who wrote this but my Dad framed it for me a few years ago. It explains why I will always have a dog. A Blackdog.
Are You This Good?
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can forgive a friend's lack of consideration,
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you when, through no fault of your own, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed or color, religion or politics,
THEN, my friend, you're almost as good as your dog!

I am so, so sorry. Splash sounds like the best dog a guy could ever know. I'm sure she loved you as much as you loved her. Hang in there, Big Doug.
Thanks. She was something. She would have loved all of your work in the desert. We used to train in the springs all the time. The hot springs on Skull Valley were some of her favorites.
sorry for your loss Doug.
Sorry to hear about it, but sounds like you did right by her.
Thanks everyone. It is the worst part of owning dogs. They just do not live long enough.
